Which product is right for me?
RESTORE Deep Repair Tallow Balm is our rich, waterless balm for face and body. It's the one to reach for when skin feels dry, tight or sensitive.
HALO Radiance Face Oil is a lightweight botanical oil that sinks in quickly and layers easily under sunscreen or makeup. It's a lovely choice if your skin is on the oilier side, or if you want glow without richness.
HALO GOLD Radiance Face Balm is a rich face balm with bakuchiol, made for skin that's changing with age. It's ideal for evenings and for drier, more mature skin.
Can I use RESTORE on my face?
Yes. RESTORE is made for both face and body. Warm a small amount between your fingertips and press it gently into clean skin. If your skin is oily or breakout-prone, start with a very small amount a few nights a week and see how your skin responds, or try HALO Radiance Face Oil instead.
Where are your products made?
Every Āhua product is made by hand, in small batches, in our dedicated studio here in Aotearoa New Zealand. We use New Zealand ingredients wherever we can, including organic grass-fed tallow and native kawakawa and mānuka.
Are your ingredients organic?
Our tallow is organic, grass-fed New Zealand tallow, processed to cosmetic grade. For our botanicals and essential oils, we choose organic wherever we can and always look for the highest quality we can source.
What makes your tallow different?
We use organic tallow from New Zealand grass-fed cattle. Research comparing grass-fed with grain-fed beef has found grass-fed fat tends to contain more omega-3 fatty acids and CLA. You can read more, with references, on The Science page.
Why don't you whip your tallow?
Whipping adds air, which makes a balm look bigger but means there's less actual product in the jar. We keep ours dense and unwhipped, so a little goes a long way and every jar is full of balm, not air.
Will tallow clog my pores?
Everyone's skin is different, and there isn't good research on tallow and pores specifically, so we won't promise it never will. If you're prone to breakouts, start small and patch test, or choose HALO Radiance Face Oil, which is lighter.
Can I use Āhua during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
Our products contain essential oils. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, please check with your midwife, doctor or pharmacist before using them, and patch test first. Once you have the go-ahead, RESTORE is a lovely, comforting balm for dry skin on a growing belly.
Can I use RESTORE on my children?
RESTORE can be used on children's dry skin. Because it contains essential oils, please patch test first and check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it on babies. If your child has eczema or any other skin condition, talk to your doctor about the right care for them.
Where does it fit in my routine?
Apply oils before balms. If you use both, smooth on a few drops of HALO Radiance Face Oil first, then finish with RESTORE or HALO GOLD to lock everything in. Balms work best on clean, slightly damp skin, morning or night. You can also use RESTORE on dry patches whenever they need it.
How long will my products last?
Our balms are made without water. Once opened, use them within 12 months for the best experience. Keep them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
How should I store my balm?
Store it at room temperature, below 30 °C, and away from direct sunlight. Like all natural fats, tallow softens in warm weather and firms up when it's cooler. That's completely normal and doesn't change how it works.
Is it normal to see variations in texture?
Yes. Because we make everything by hand in small batches, without stabilisers or fillers, you may notice small differences in texture or colour between batches or with temperature changes. These don't affect the quality of your product.
What is your refunds and returns policy?
Every Āhua product is handmade in small batches, so we're unable to accept returns once a product has been opened or used.
If your order arrives damaged, faulty or incorrect, please email us at monique@ahuaskin.co.nz within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo, and we'll make it right. This doesn't affect your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act.
